A top tip for our times...fill the vacuum flask

It wouldn’t be so bad if prices weren’t driven higher because of political reasons.

There was a chap who, at the end of the day at work, would fill a vacuum flask with hot water from the office kettle, to save boiling the water at home. This was on a TV programme about 'scrimpers', so he was mocked rather than getting sympathy for having an obsessive disorder.

Times have now changed. UK fuel prices are rocketing this month, and employers might well be installing swipe-card access to the kettle.

It wouldn’t be so bad if prices weren’t driven higher because of political reasons. About twenty-five per cent of your fuel bill goes on “environmental and social obligations” - that is, political levies.

While Nigel Farage is supporting a referendum on Boris Johnson’s Net Zero policies - not a terrible idea, although difficult to know how it would turn out- in the mean time we are being advised to turn off idle phone chargers and washing machines. Every little helps! So get on trend, do your bit and fill a vacuum flask every time you boil a kettle. All the celebrity influencers will be doing it soon.
