It is familiar sight to see: a Prime Minister, cut adrift and alone, abandoned by their own bedfellows, and standing on the Downing Street steps.

Whereas we were once a country unified in spirit but divided in details of economic policy, we have become one largely apathetic towards economics and split increasingly in spirit.

There is no reforming the party, in the same way there is no way to lightly renovate a house that has been gutted by fire and has had incendiary bombs dropped on it.

It might be tempting to have sympathy with the Conservative Party membership but such sympathy would be entirely unearned.

Tasks which initially seem insurmountable can be overcome if the political will is there.
