What is the largest political coalition Britain at this moment? It is, quite simply, those who reject the establishment and the poisonous direction it is taking us, inexorably towards an authoritarian and impoverished future.

This coalition is a genuinely diverse cohort. It includes ex-Labour members who have been alienated by Keir Starmer. It includes true conservatives, who could never again vote for the Tory party which has destroyed their civil liberties and wealth. It includes the 32.7 per cent of the electorate who did not vote in the last election.

We do not have to choose between the lesser of two evils at the next election, as we were forced to do in 2019. There is a formula for genuine political change, and a clear roadmap now set out towards it. It’s simple, an option to vote for the ‘Abstain’ party in every constituency at the next election, whose members will not take their seats and will, instead, resign after three months, triggering a by-election. This project requires no outside funding or influence, it can be managed all through a quick crowdfunding campaign, and the word can be spread for free through social media and real life conversations.

‘Abstain’ is the only way of removing the political establishment, which has so badly let us down, from comfortable safe seats. It is the only platform that can unite dissidents on the left, and the right, into a functioning coalition.

The accessibility of crowdfunding and the power of social media have removed the barriers to entry which have stopped us from changing the political system in previous elections. It is important to protest in the streets against the Johnson government. But we must start to build momentum for Abstain before the next election is called. On behalf of our children’s future, and out of respect for the prosperous and liberal country we inherited.
