Biden’s win does not ensure the end of America’s woes

He needs the presidency to defend from legal and financial woes and so giving the presidency up would be very much against his interests.

As Kenny Rogers said ‘You never count your money while you’re sitting at the table’. This seems to be what most people are doing when it comes to the US election.

Joe Biden may have been elected president but that hardly saves America from disaster, in fact it may make that disaster more likely. When Abraham Lincoln won the election in 1861 he triggered the secession of the south before he had even been inaugurated and Trump has made it very clear that he will not concede the election.

Conspiracy theories about fraud and mail in ballots have been carefully cultivated by the Trump administration for weeks now and this is only intensifying with him now suing states and taking other legal action. When this inevitably fails, Trump will have a choice, slink away or refuse to go. Based on his personality and past history he is likely to pick the latter rather than the former.

Not only is the idea that Democrats are trying to ‘steal’ the election widespread, they are also causing Trump supporters to attempt to storm counting houses, often armed with assault rifles. The fact that many of them are being banned only proves to them more that these conspiracies are fact.

Republicans are calling for violence online and groups like the ‘boogalooboys’ have actively been attempting to cause a second war for years now. The US is not only full of guns it is also full of underground extremist militias; ready to strike when the iron is hot. Trump himself is in a desperate position, he’s bankrupt and the new Biden administration could probably take legal action against him for some of his actions as president. An animal is most dangerous when it is trapped and the Democrats are committing a mistake that Sun Tzu strongly warned against in the art of war; don’t trap your enemy, that will only cause them to fight to the death, instead leave them a route of escape that allows you to hunt them down later.

Trump is now effectively a wounded and caged animal. He needs the presidency to defend from legal and financial woes and so giving the presidency up would be very much against his interests. However, Trump still has an out. The states that flipped to Biden have Republican-majority legislatures and if they felt there were election tampering and fraud, which are exactly what Trump is asserting to have happened, they could pick their own electors.

In a rather Machiavellian move Trump’s team could use their allegations of ‘election stealing’ to cover their own theft; the theft of the presidency. If Trump's legal team take this options than I cannot predict what the consequences will be; God help us all.
