A Tear for England

By day I dream of smokey pubs;

Of frosted ale,

And dining clubs;

Of sleepy England,

Sunday morn'.

I dream of a fabric long since torn.

I dream of men who aren't the same;

Seldom feel the acid rain,

The pain,

The shame,

The wasted days.

And at the dawn I'm merry,

It's still the night for some.

And when the night is calling,

Calls a bottle of red for one.

Three cheers,

Three cheers,

To long gone years;

We had it alright for a while.

And when forlorn,

Comes another dawn,

I'll force myself to smile.
